Overview
Learn the essential skills required to work safely on construction sites at heights above 1.5 metres from ground level.
The significant growth in the resources and infrastructure industry has led to demand for skilled workers who meet key skill requirements. Delivered through practical, face-to-face training, this short course will teach you how to work safely at heights on a work site as well as where fall-protection measures are required.
Upon completion of this course you will have competency in:
- locating and applying relevant documentation, policies and procedures
- working at heights safely, effectively and efficiently
- naming and understanding the function of equipment, components and materials
- complying with equipment manufacturer's instructions and specifications
- safe shifting and handling of tools and materials
- adhering to statutory and regulatory authority requirements
- complying with heights safety systems
- understanding the processes of providing for safe working practices
- using safety equipment/systems and considerations to facilitate working safely at heights
- complying with safe work methods.
Course contents
In order to be issued a Statement of Attainment for the unit of competency within TNABQ Working at Heights Safely in the Resources and Infrastructure Industry, a student must successfully undertake the following unit:

Recognition of Prior Learning and/or Credit Transfers
Previous completion of units at the Polytechnic or any other Registered Training Organisation and/or previous attainment of skills and knowledge may be credited towards this course.

The significant growth in this industry has led to demand for skilled workers who meet key skill requirements. Delivered through practical, face-to-face training, this short course will teach you how to work safely at heights on a work site as well as where fall protection measures are required.
Upon completion of this course you will have competency in:
- identify and assess risks;
- identifying hazardous materials and other hazards on work sites;
- applying safe work practices;
- identifying work area requirements;
- assessing work area;
- conducting work tasks safely;
- complying with site safety plans, OHS regulations and state and territory legislation applicable to workplace operations;
- safely and effectively using tools, plant and equipment;
- communicating and work effectively and safely with others, and;
- selecting and using appropriate height access and fall protection equipment and work methods, including inspecting fall protection equipment, scaffolding and fall barriers for faults.
