Victoria University is committed to equal opportunity in employment and education and we provide parenting rooms to assist students and staff to balance the demands of study and/or work with their role as a parent or carer. 

Parenting rooms are available at specific campus locations. The purpose of the rooms is to provide students and staff with appropriate facilities to feed and/or change their babies or young children, and a private space to express milk and breastfeed babies. Student spaces are maintained with the help of Student Services and Amenities Fees.

Facilities in the parenting rooms

Facilities in our parenting rooms include:

  • baby change tables
  • lockers
  • comfortable chairs for breastfeeding or expressing
  • a microwave for heating milk and food
  • a refrigerator for storing milk.  

Water and toilet facilities are available in the student lounge areas located a short distance from each of the Parenting Rooms.

Keys to parenting rooms

Room access and availability is via the Student Wellbeing Office or via campus Security.

You will need to bring a valid student or staff ID to sign for room keys and gain access.

To ensure privacy, rooms can only be accessed by one parent/carer at a time.

Locations of parenting rooms

City Campus

The City Campus parenting room is on Level 10 of the VU City Tower, in room T1006.

Student Lounge and kitchen facilities on level 10 include: 

  • kitchenette (including microwave and hot water)
  • vending machines
  • lounges
  • tables and chairs
  • WiFi access
  • power outlets.

City Campus Student Wellbeing Office is located at level 1 of the VU City Tower.

Footscray Nicholson Campus

Footscray Nicholson Campus - Parenting Room is in the Telford Building, Room T104.

Footscray Nicholson Student Wellbeing Office is located at T146.

The nearest Student Lounge and kitchen facilities is located at Building T, Level 1 (Opposite cafeteria).

The nearest toilets are at T126 (Opposite the lift and stairs).

Footscray Park Campus

Footscray Park Campus - Parenting Room is located at Building E, Room E123a.

Footscray Park Student Wellbeing Office is located at Building M, Level 2.

The nearest Student Lounge and kitchen facilities are located at building P, Level 1 (straight ahead behind a wall with vending machines when you enter Building P)

The nearest toilets are at Building G, Level 1 (entrance is at the glass doors opposite to the parenting room (turn left once inside) or Building E, Level 1.

St Albans Campus

St Albans Campus – Parenting Room is in Building 4S, Room 4S127.

St Albans Student Wellbeing Office is located at 4N101.

The nearest Student Lounge and kitchen facilities is located at 4N130.

The nearest toilets are at 4S117.
