Advance your skills using spreadsheets with an intermediate-level Microsoft Excel short course at Victoria University Polytechnic.

If you use Excel at work, home or a community organisation, and would like unlock some of the program's time-saving secrets, this course is for you.

Our half-day professional-development course is tailored to people who have a basic understanding of Microsoft Excel. It is designed to move your skills to the next level so you can become more efficient in your current role, or aim for a work promotion.

Delivered online over 4 hours, this Excel workshop is convenient and led by an expert facilitator. Using videos, online exercises and discussion groups, you will discover new ways to make Excel work for you, including creating complex spreadsheets, writing formulas and using Excel tools such as 'look up' and 'if' statements.

Learning outcomes

This workshop will provide participants with an understanding of Microsoft Excel at an intermediate level to improve their Microsoft Excel skills. It is anticipated that the participants will be existing workers with range of experiences in diverse workplace contexts to better manage their current role responsibilities or to expand on their Microsoft Excel skill set to access employment or promotion.

The program is delivered over a half day (4 hourly) workshop via an online platform, facilitator led delivery will provide an overview of platform being utilised and expectations of participation whilst ensuring any participant technology issues are addressed. This course will be facilitated via webinar or zoom scheduled times, including short videos, and electronic resources provided to participants and involves group discussions to support the key principles related to managing workplace relationships.

At completion of the course participants will be able to:

• Apply workstation ergonomics while working with Excel

• Microsoft Excel intermediate features

• Plan and create Intermediate / Complex spreadsheets

• Enter, check and amend data in Excel (Review the use of Excel Ribbon & tasks within each section)

• Write formulas in Excel (Test and check their function)

• Discuss IF Formula, V-Look up & H-Look up and Nested IF statements

There is no specific admission requirement.

Participants will need access to a computer with an operational version of Microsoft Excel installed on their computer. The program requires participants to have basic level of computer skills to access and operate the online learning software to navigate a webpage and find information, attend a webinar using zoom or webex for online delivery. If the course is being delivered face-to-face onsite, computer access is not required.
