Overview

This hobbyist course is designed for participants to develop skills and knowledge in mechanical fitting in an engineering environment.

Short course dates and times: 
13 July – 14 September 2023 5.30–9pm Thursday evening classes - July to September 2023
5 October – 7 December 2023 5.30–9pm Thursday evening classes - October to December 2023

This short course is delivered one (1) night a week over 10 weeks, from 5.30-9.30pm.

You will get hands-on experience in mechanical fitting in an engineering environment and develop knowledge and skills in:

  • mechanical fitting in an engineering environment
  • basic problem solving
  • working with other to develop technical skill
  • team work
  • basic engineering techniques for a DIY home project.

THAAU - Mechanical Fitting for Hobbyist

This hobbyist course is designed for participants to develop skills and knowledge in mechanical fitting in an engineering environment. Basic problem solving and the ability to work with others to develop technical and team work skills can be immediately applied efficiently and productively. Demonstrating commitment and the desire to learn also means absorbing new technologies and keeping updated in your industry.

The short course is delivered one (1) night a week over 10 weeks 5:30pm - 9:30pm and open to learners who are interested in learning basic engineering techniques for a DIY home project, as an introduction to further studies in this area or those exploring new employment opportunities. Other participants interested in this course may be experienced engineers who are keen to maintain their skills and use industrial machining equipment to complete projects for personal use. Participants will receive a Certificate of Participation, as this is a non-accredited course.

Admission & pathways

Meeting the minimum admission requirements does not guarantee you entry into this course. Some courses receive more applications than the number of places available. In this situation we will also assess your education, work and other relevant experience.

All applicants must be over eighteen (18) years of age.
It is mandatory all participants will provide their own basic personal protective equipment (PPE) including:
*Clear safety glasses
*Hearing protection
*Gauntlet gloves
*Steel capped boots
*100% cotton drill Long sleeve shirt or similar overalls.*Full long leg pants or overalls (not trackpants)
