Your business specialisation will be complemented with crucial workplace skills in problem solving, creativity and understanding contemporary business issues through authentic assessment.

After graduating from this business course, you can choose to progress to a masters degree in your chosen specialisation – with credits from the diploma to qualify sooner.

Specialisations

If you have accounting experience or a related bachelor degree, the Professional Accounting specialisation provides you with a stepping stone into the world of professional accounting. 

You will develop a strong foundation in accounting procedures and practices, graduating ready to take on a more senior accounting role, or progress to a Master of Professional Accounting.

This specialisation offers a pathway to Master of Business Analytics course for those who have relevant professional experience, but don't have a bachelor degree.

You'll study foundational business analytics units that build on key business systems and processes. Using business analytics techniques and SAP technology, you'll become expert at solving information problems – allowing effective, complex decision making in response to contemporary business challenges.

Victoria University is one of the world's leading institutions in ERP (SAP) education as recognised by industry, SAP and academia. The Enterprise Resource Planning specialisation offers a pathway to the Master of Enterprise Resource Planning. It is designed for those who already have relevant professional experience, but do not yet have a postgraduate degree.

You will learn to support the implementation and maintenance of enterprise resource planning through the application of analytical techniques and SAP technology. You will also learn to understand the implications of these types of systems in a business setting – and how these systems achieve effective complex decision making in response to contemporary business challenges.

The Finance specialisation is designed for practising financial advisors and others working in the finance industry, who already have a base of significant relevant professional experience or a bachelor degree. It offers a pathway to the Master of Finance.

It combines formal units of study, related learning and strategy development. You'll develop skills for professional careers in:

  • financial management
  • fund management
  • securities trading
  • financial risk management.

This is complemented with skills development focusing on critical thinking, problem solving, creativity and social aspects through authentic assessment.

This specialisation is designed for those who already have relevant professional experience, but do not yet have a bachelor degree.

You'll graduate with a critical overview of marketing theory and a strong foundation in conceptual marketing knowledge. This will be complemented by current skills development focusing on critical thinking, problem solving and creativity.

The Marketing specialisation offers a pathway to further postgraduate marketing studies in the Master of Marketing.

The Management specialisation provides you with a solid grounding in business and management knowledge, and expertise in the strategic aspects of management.

If you're a manager looking to upgrade your skills, this mid-level postgraduate qualification will provide you with the tools and knowledge to take the next step in your career. It also provides a pathway to the Master of Management.

The Supply Chain Management specialisation offers a pathway to the Master of Supply Chain Management. It is designed for those who already have significant relevant professional experience, but do not yet have a bachelor degree.

The course will develop your knowledge in the field of logistics, operations management and supply chain management. We offer a particular focus on the skills and techniques required for employment in the logistics and supply chain sectors, in early career management roles.

The Tourism, Hospitality and Events Management specialisation will prepare you for a wide range of roles within the rapidly growing tourism and events sectors.

The course incorporates tourism, hospitality and events management studies, with a focus on addressing contemporary issues and challenges faced by destinations internationally.

You'll learn to engage with contemporary and emerging industry issues within the visitor economy, and graduate with a range of managerial skills and knowledge. Specific insights into tourism, hospitality and event management policy development, coupled with new professional networks, will prepare you to become a tourism-industry leader.

After completing the course, you'll have the opportunity to continue further study in the Master of Tourism and Events Management.

Study mode

Following the overwhelming success of the revolutionary VU Block Model with undergraduate students, we rolled out the Block Model to our postgraduate courses.

This course is delivered in eight-week mode, which means you study two units (subjects) at a time over eight weeks (or one unit at a time over eight weeks for part-time study), rather than juggling several units at once. And with its focused timetables and smaller, collaborative classes, VU’s Block Model gives you more time to connect with your peers, lecturers and industry partners, helping you to build strong professional networks.

To attain the Graduate Diploma in Business, students will be required to complete 96 credit points consisting of:

  • 48 credit points college core units
  • 48 credit points specialisation studies selected from the approved list

What's a unit?

A unit or 'subject' is the actual class you'll attend in the process of completing a course.

Most courses have a mixture of compulsory 'core' units that you need to take and optional elective units that you can choose to take based on your area of interest, expertise or experience.

Each unit is worth a set amount of study credits based on the amount of time you study. Generally, 1 credit is equal to 1 hour of study per week.

Completion of an Australian Bachelor degree (or equivalent) in any discipline
