VenU is our award-winning, student-run restaurant at Footscray Nicholson Campus.

Free drinking water is available from new drinking fountains and from free essential kitchen facilities available to staff, students and visitors on across VU campuses.

We love coffee and as such, our barista uses a blend of coffee beans that are made up of four different beans roasted to perfection, providing a unique flavour and guaranteed to have you coming back for more.

The Common – Level 10 

The Common is a fresh, modern and health and wellbeing focused café.

Located on Level 10 of the VU City Campus Tower, the café aims to provide grab and go options for students and staff who are in between classes or meetings.

Victorian Government's Healthy Choices guidelines are used at this site to assist customers make healthy food decisions. The 'traffic light system' categorises food and drink into three groups; Green (best choice/at least 50%), Amber (choose carefully) and Red (Limit/no more than 20%).

Offerings at this location include coffee, cold drinks and a range of food options such as pastries, protein pots, yoghurt pots, fresh sandwiches, wraps and salads.

External caterers

While Victoria University does not have exclusive catering contracts, VU cafes are our preferred caterers. The companies listed above can cater on any Victoria University campus and comply with all relevant laws and regulations.

If you do require to use an external caterer, the preferred external caterer, who complies with all relevant laws and VU requirements is Mabu Mabu.

Other caterers

If you decide to hire an external caterer other than a VU Preferred External Caterer, it is your duty of care to to ensure they comply with the relevant laws.

As a guide, you should ask the following questions:

  • Does the caterer have public liability insurance?
  • Does the caterer have a registered business name with an Australian Business Number (ABN)?
  • Does the caterer have a current Food Act Registration?
  • Does the caterer use an approved food transport vehicle?
  • Does the caterer have an approved food safety plan?
  • If liquor is to be served, does the caterer or premises have an appropriate liquor licence?
  • Is the caterer willing and have the ability to safely cater for people with food allergies?

The local government council in the area where the caterer is based can be contacted to verify most of this information.

Vending machines

Vendy is the VU vending machine provider.  They offer an impressive range of drinks and snacks with an important focus on healthy options. All drink and snack machines include the Victorian Government's Healthy Choice Guidelines (HEAS) colour coded 'Traffic Light System':

  • Best Choice (Green),
  • Choose Carefully (Amber)
  • Limit (Red).

Other vending available on campus include coffee, accessories/tech and PPE.
