Domestic students enrolled in either Higher Education (HE) or VET/TAFE may be eligible for a refund of fees in certain circumstances.

The census date is important in determining your eligibility for a refund.

  • Before census date: You may be eligible for a refund if you have withdrawn from your course or any unit(s) of study, or taken an approved leave of absence before the relevant census date.
  • After census date: You will not be eligible for a refund if you withdraw from a course or unit of study after census date.

Refund eligibility for VET/TAFE Certificate I to Certificate IV

If you withdraw from your course or any unit(s) of study within 28 days from the unit start date, in the current year, you may be eligible for a refund of your fees. See your course manager for further details.

If you do not formally withdraw from your course or any unit(s) within the applicable timeframe, you will not be eligible for a refund and will still be liable for any unpaid fees.

How to apply for a refund

If you believe you meet the eligibility requirements for a refund of your fees, fill out the domestic student refund form and return it to us at VUHQ or online at ASKVU.

All refunds are processed via EFT (Electronic Funds Transfer) so make sure you include your correct bank account details on the refund request form.

Please allow 10 – 15 days for your refund to appear in your nominated bank account.
