Overview

Are you interested in applying to work with Victoria Police? The Course in Policing Recruitment Pathway 22512VIC will help you to gain the skills needed for your application.

This preparation course for the police application will provide you with essential skills to communicate effectively in diverse situations, and manage your own well being. You will develop knowledge of:

  • the policing environment and its broad legal and ethical framework
  • techniques to meet and maintain required fitness and swimming standards
  • strategies to support personal well being
  • English-language vocabulary and grammar to the level required for entry into Victoria Police or Protective Services Officer training
  • mathematical language and operations to a level required for entry into Victoria Police or Protective Services Officer training
  • communication techniques to support verbal reasoning and non-verbal communication
  • exam strategies.

You will also develop skills to the standard require by the recruitment process in:

  • physical fitness and swimming
  • verbal and written communication
  • numeracy (maths).

Completion of this course does not result in acceptance to the Victoria Police Academy. There are additional requirements that are determined and assessed by Victoria Police. See more information on the Police recruitment process.

Recognition of Prior Learning and/or Credit Transfers

Previous completion of units at the Polytechnic or any other Registered Training Organisation and/or previous attainment of skills and knowledge may be credited towards this course.

The Course in Policing Recruitment Pathway is intended to support you in managing an extended law enforcement recruitment process. It will provide you with essential communication skills to communicate effectively in diverse situations, in addition to providing you with self-management skills to manage your own personal wellbeing.

You will develop knowledge of:

- the policing environment and its broad legal and ethical framework;
- techniques to meet and maintain required fitness and swimming standards;
- strategies to support personal wellbeing;
- English language vocabulary and grammar to the level required for entry into Victoria Police or Protective Services Officer training;
- mathematical language and operations to a level required for entry into Victoria Police or Protective Services Officer training;
- oral communication techniques to support verbal reasoning and non-verbal communication, and;
- examination strategies.

You will also be provided with support to develop skills to the standard required by the recruitment process in:

- physical fitness and swimming;
- verbal and written communication, and;
- numeracy.
