All staff and students can access WiFi on campus by connecting to the eduroam secure wireless network.

Connect to eduroam

Connect to eduroam WiFi with these three steps:

  1. Choose eduroam from the list of networks
  2. Enter your username in the following format [email protected] (for students) or [email protected] (for staff)
  3. Enter your password (same as MYVU) and accept the certificate if requested.

You should now be connected to the Internet.

After you log in the first time your device will remember your credentials and automatically login to eduroam whenever you're on campus.

Using eduroam at other universities

You can access the eduroam wireless network across universities in Australia and overseas by logging on with your VU username and password. Find participating eduroam institutions.

Eduroam connection instructions

Choose your device and follow the step-by-step instructions explaining how to gain access to eduroam WiFi:

  1. From the iPhone or iPad Home screen, tap Settings, then tap Wi-Fi.
  2. Ensure Wi-Fi is turned on. Tap eduroam from the list of Networks.
  3. Enter your username (example: [email protected]) and password in the relevant fields, then tap Join.
  4. Tap Accept or Trust to accept the Certificate.

This completes the wireless setup - a tick next to the eduroam network indicates that you have successfully connected to the eduroam wireless service.

  1. Touch the settings icon to open settings.
  2. Touch Wi-Fi or Wireless & Networks and tap eduroam from the list of Networks.
  3. Enter your username (example: [email protected]) and password in the relevant fields, and touch Connect.

This completes the wireless setup - a tick next to the eduroam network indicates that you have successfully connected to the eduroam wireless service.

Most Android devices will pick up these settings automatically, but if not you can try entering the following:

  1. Security: 802.1x EAP
  2. EAP method: PEAP
  3. Phase 2 authentication: MSCHAPV2
  4. CA certificate: Use system certificates
  5. Domain: vu.edu.au
  6. Identity: for example [email protected]
  7. Anonymous identity: <leave blank>
  8. Password: <type your password>

  1. Click the available connections icon (located bottom right hand side of your screen).
  2. Select the ‘eduroam’ network and then click Connect. Optional: check the Connect automatically for automatic connection to network when in range.
  3. Enter your username (example: [email protected]) and password in the relevant fields, and click OK.
  4. When prompted with a Security Alert, click connect.

Once you see 'Connected' you have completed the wireless setup and you should now be able to access the Internet from your windows computer

  1. Click on the available connections icon (located on the bottom right hand of your screen), select the 'eduroam' network and click connect.
  2. Optional: Check the 'connect automatically' box to automatically connect to this network when in range.
  3. Enter your username (example: [email protected]) and password in the relevant fields and click OK.
  4. When prompted with the security alert, click connect.

Once you see 'Connected' you have completed the wireless setup and you should now be able to access the Internet from your windows computer

  1. Click on the available connections icon (located on the bottom right hand of your screen), select the 'eduroam' network and click connect.
  2. Enter your username (example: [email protected]) and password in the relevant fields and click OK.
  3. When prompted with the security alert, click connect.
  4. You will be prompted to "Select a location for the 'eduroam' network", select the desired network (for example Public Network), alternatively you may click cancel.

This completes the wireless setup and you should now be able to access the Internet from your windows computer.

  1. Click the wireless icon (located top right hand side of your screen) and select the 'eduroam' network.
  2. Enter your username (example: [email protected]) and password in the relevant fields and click OK.
  3. When prompted to verify Certificate click continue to accept certificate.
  4. You may be prompted to authorise system changes, you will need to put in a local account name and password with administrator access.

This completes the wireless setup and you should now be able to access the Internet from your mac.

Report an issue

Report any issues you experience while connected to eduroam WiFi network, including weak or no coverage in certain areas to IT Service Desk. Report a blackspot online.
