Gain valuable workplace skills and confidence with a Certificate II in Work Education 22481VIC at Victoria University Polytechnic.
This course offers people with intellectual disabilities the opportunity to develop hands-on skills in simulated and authentic work place settings. You will have the opportunity to select either hospitality or business electives.
To provide you with an authentic employment experience, this course includes two supported work-placement blocks. For your simulated workplace training, you will learn in state-of-the-art hospitality facilities.
This course will give you an understanding of workplace expectations. You will be supported to gain skills in:
- job seeking and employability
- personal management
- teamwork and communication
- basic literacy and numeracy
- use of everyday technology.
This course will improve your employment opportunities and ensure you feel more prepared to enter the workforce. Once complete, you can pathway into other Certificate II or III courses or gain entry-level employment.

This pathway course will help you to enter the workforce and reach your career goals. You'll be ready for entry-level employment (e.g. as a retail assistant), or further study or vocational training to gain employment.

Course structure
The course structure comprises the following core and elective units. These electives have been selected based on industry needs, graduate pathways and/or student and teacher feedback.
To be awarded the 22481VIC Certificate II in Work Education, a student must successfully complete a total of eight (8) units of competency, comprising of:
- three (3) core units, and;
- five (5) elective units, of which:
- one (1) unit must be selected from the WHS/OHS elective units listed in 22481VIC Certificate II in Work Education, and;
- four (4) units may be selected from the units listed in 22481VIC Certificate II in Work Education, or from other endorsed or accredited training products where the unit(s) are first packaged in AQF Level 1, 2 or 3 qualifications in the source training product.
Selection of electives must reflect the integrity and intent of the qualification.

These electives have been selected based on industry needs, graduate pathways and/or student and teacher feedback. Alternative suitable electives are only available via Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) and Credit Transfer (CT).

Previous completion of units at the Polytechnic or any other Registered Training Organisation and/or previous attainment of skills and knowledge may be credited towards this course. Units must satisfy the completion rules of the qualification and be assessed as appropriate by the Polytechnic.
Learning outcomes
The Certificate II in Work Education is intended to support post compulsory school aged learners with permanent intellectual disabilities to develop employment ready skills, knowledge and behaviours.
The outcomes of the 22481VIC Certificate II in Work Education are consistent with Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF) Level 2 through:

development of basic factual, technical and procedural knowledge of a defined area of work and learning in:

WHS/OHS rights, obligations, procedures and processes;

workplace behavioural expectations;
-
requirements and features of a range of jobs;
-
development of basic cognitive, technical and communication skills;
-
participate effectively in a workplace;
-
manage own time;
-
apply defined personal protective and contingency strategies, and;
-
undertake a work placement.
Skills and knowledge at this level will be applied in structured and stable contexts within a defined range of parameters. The volume of learning for this qualification would typically be a minimum of 1 year due to the additional time required to reinforce learning for the intended cohort. The volume of learning incorporates structured training delivery and extensive opportunities for practice and reinforcement of skills.

Students who enrol in a:
- government subsidised place pay subsidised tuition fees (the government contributes the rest), and may be required to pay a Student Services and Amenities Fee along with any material fees
- full fee-paying place pay the full fee tuition rate (which includes Student Services and Amenities Fee and any material fees).

Entry to the 22481VIC Certificate II in Work Education is intended for post compulsory school age learners with evidence of a permanent cognitive and /or intellectual disability. Evidence of permanent cognitive and / or intellectual disability could include but is not limited to:

Formal assessment by a registered medical practitioner

Integration support at school with modified curriculum
As part of the application process, applicants must:

complete a Pre-training Review (PTR)

undertake a literacy and numeracy (LN) assessment to determine suitability for admission

attend an interview

Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL)

To receive RPL, we assess your previous work, education and life experiences against recognised qualifications. Applications for RPL can be made prior to enrolling.
