Electronic and print books can be found through the search box on the library homepage.

E-books can be accessed 24 hours a day seven days a week. They can be read entirely online, or downloaded to your PC or mobile device. Most e-books enable you to search across the entire contents of the book. Once downloaded, an e-book can be viewed on your other devices.

VU Library e-books have been purchased from a number of different companies so there is some difference between how e-books are borrowed, downloaded, printed, read off-line and transferred between devices. Loan periods vary between 1-7 days.

The library purchases electronic versions of textbooks where possible, however many textbooks are not available in an e-book version that can be purchased by libraries.

Information on how to search for books is available on the Finding Resources guide.

Information on how to use electronic books including several ‘how-to’ videos is available on the E-books Guide.

Digital Rights Management (DRM) & Adobe Digital Editions

Most e-books are protected by Digital Rights Management systems which regulate the usage of digital content. It limits the loan period for downloading and the number of pages that can be printed or copied.

Adobe Digital Editions (ADE) is free software that enables viewing and managing of e-books protected by DRM.

You will need to create an Adobe ID to authorise viewing your e-book on multiple devices.
