    Overview

    This unit deals with the fundamentals of Australian Migration law, the role of migration agents and the application of migration law and policy. It will cover the history of Australian migration law. The development and structure of Australia’s immigration system legislation and policy and the establishment of the Migration Agent profession. It examines the fundamentals of Australia's visa system including making valid visa application procedures for decision-making and general requirements for most visas.


    Learning Outcomes

    On successful completion of this unit, students will be able to:

    1. Demonstrate an understanding of the relationship between the various levels of legislation, case law and policy and the Australian immigration system through interpretation and application of Australian migration law in a variety of scenarios.
    2. Undertake research to assess current and relevant information from a range of sources to develop and deliver migration advice.
    3. Demonstrate sound knowledge of relevant legislation to provide advice on procedures for valid visa applications.
    4. Critically analyse and discuss the role and regulation of migration agents.
    5. Formulate and implement communication strategies orientated to key stakeholders including clients.
