Why transfer to university?
- Easy transition to university from TAFE
- Enhance and expand your learning
- Wider range or career opportunities
- Obtain a degree in a shorter period of time with credits
- Two qualifications
- Victoria University Block Model.
CHENALI
So as a student who's completing or already completed a program at VU Polytechnic, why transfer to university? There's a few reasons. You would have an easier transition to university from TAFE where you can enhance and expand your scope of knowledge. You also have a wider range of career options and would be able to get your degree in a shorter period of time as you will be granted credits for your previous study. This also means you'll finish off with two qualifications. And most importantly, you'll be studying in our award-winning block model.

- Under 35 students in a class
- Results within 3 days
CHENALI
At Victoria University, we have revolutionised tertiary education with our award-winning block model. The block model allows students to focus on one subject at a time, rather than juggling multiple subjects over a six-month period, like at other universities. And is offered to students in all years of our undergraduate degree. With the VU Block Model, you'll be fully focused on each subject. If you are fascinated by one particular subject, you can immerse yourself in it and enjoy all that subject has to offer. And if you don't enjoy it, you will be pleased to have it finished in only four weeks without having to wait until the end of the semester to know your result. Up next is a brief video to show what your year is going to look like while studying under the block model at Victoria University.

We've been teaching the same way for hundreds of years now but the world around us has changed and along with it, employer and industry needs. So at VU, we changed the way you learn with our Australian first VU Block Model.
Traditionally, you juggle the demands and deadlines of four units at once.
Instead, the VU Block Model has you focus on one unit at a time.
Each semester will be broken into four blocks which run for four weeks.
You focus on one unit in each block completing all your assessments before moving on to the next.
So instead of this

Once you successfully complete your course at VU Polytechnic you may be eligible for a guaranteed pathway to the mentioned bachelor course at Victoria University. What it means by a guaranteed pathway is that you have a confirmed entry to a course once you meet all the admissions entry criteria stated in the conditional offer letter. As you can see, once you successfully complete the Diploma of Paramedical Sciences, you may be eligible for the listed credits once you transition into the Bachelor of Paramedicine at Victoria University. Also please note, certain bachelor-level degrees might also have additional admissions criteria to be met, which will be listed on the course web page.
I would now like to hand over to Diana, who is the Pathways Coordinator for Admissions, to talk to you about the admissions process relating to pathways.
DIANA RECTOR
Pathways Coordinator – Admissions
Thanks Chenali.
So what is a pathway conditional offer? A pathway conditional offer means you have a guaranteed place into an eligible pathway course upon successfully completing your current course and meeting any additional admissions criteria that may be required for the course. So what is the conditional offer process?
New conditional offers currently go out twice a year, in approximately May and October. At the same time as new offers are sent, acknowledgement emails are also sent to those that have previously accepted their pathway conditional offer. These emails are sent to your student email account. Information regarding next steps in pathway processes are also provided in both emails.

[PARAMEDICINE VIDEO PLAYS]
REBECCA
Hi, everybody. My name's Bec. I'm the clinical course chair for the Bachelor of Paramedicine at Victoria University. I think the most rewarding thing about being a paramedic is being able to give back to the community and helping people in their time of need. And for each person, that's different. So to be able to step in and be their support and offer them care, empathy and medical advice, that's what's really rewarding.
At Victoria University, we have a cutting-edge course. All of our students will undertake theoretical units that vary in physiology, pathophysiology, law and ethics, and practitioner-based units where we focus on your mental health and well-being. Victoria University is also renowned for their practical components of the course.

Study your way

State-of-the-art Facilities
REBECCA
As a student at Victoria University, we're extremely proud to say that you have access to state-of-the-art facilities. This includes having access to over 45 sets of ambulance equipment that emulates our industry standards and it will be what you're familiar with on clinical placement. We also have current practising paramedics come in and work alongside you in small groups in our practical classrooms to facilitate your learning. And we also have high-fidelity simulation suites where you get to consolidate what you've learned in the classroom. And each year, you'll undertake practical components of your course that will build on the knowledge and skills you've learned throughout the course of your degree.

The VU Block Model
REBECCA
Block model has been beneficial to paramedicine students. They have been able to focus on one unit at a time and gain a really in-depth understanding of the unit that they're learning prior to progressing on to other units where these sequential units are scaffolded to their learning. It does allow you to have some flexibility and still work part time and fit in time with your family. And also, achieve clinical placements within the year.
TEXT ON SCREEN
Leading Industry Partnerships
REBECCA
So to ensure that you're industry ready, we have a close relationship with industry providers. Current practising paramedics from industry come in and work with you in close groups in our clinical practise classes. Victoria University has great partnerships with Ambulance Victoria and also other non-emergency patient transport providers.

Immersive & Hands-on Learning
REBECCA
At Victoria University, there's a really strong focus on peer support and there's a Victoria University Student Paramedic Association, which is a student body that's run by students to support students with professional development, networking and building relationships. Not only will you get opportunities to attend professional development, you'll also build relationships and networks, which are really important to develop during your course and also in the workplace. Forming these relationships early in your course where you get to work with these industries and companies on your clinical placement allow you to familiarise yourselves with real-life expectations.
Partnerships will benefit you as a student because you're familiar in working in these dynamic and unique environments and you're familiar with these environments and companies. So having strong industry relationships with Ambulance Victoria. Clinical placements are quite dynamic and unique in nature and each shift is different. You might find yourself in a metropolitan location or a rural location but you're always supported by qualified ambulance paramedics to ensure that your shift is a fulfilling shift and a successful shift.
